The five Democratic candidates in the Vermont gubernatorial race met Thursday night to talk about the environment. The five Democrats were: Senate President Peter Shumlin, Windham County, Sen. Susan Bartlett, Lamoille County, Sen. Doug Racine, Chittenden County, former Sen. Matt Dunne, Windsor County and Secretary of State Deb Markowitz. The debate was organized by the Vermont League of Conservation Voters.

WILLISTON, Vt. The election's still almost a year away, but the Vermont governor's race is heating up. And there's another Democrat in it. State Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin announced his candidacy Monday, saying the state needs a governor with business experience who knows how to create jobs and how to make state government live within its means.

CAVENDISH, Vt. Vermont school children are stepping in to help the families of Vermont National Guard soldiers who are deploying to Afghanistan. The state Senate's most powerful Democrat, Peter Shumlin, confirmed he is close to a run for governor next year, and will make an announcement within the next three weeks. Montpelier- Secretary of State Deb Markowitz recognized Vermont's oldest nonprofits in a ceremony held Wednesday, September 23, at the Vermont Statehouse. The Vermont Centennial Nonprofit Awards program recognizes nonprofit organizations that have operated in Vermont for at least 100 years. This year, 29 of Vermont's oldest nonprofits were presented with a plaque.
